Altiscan deployed on TOTAL sites
The Altiscan robot, the result of a collaboration between ROBOPLANET, TOTAL, Institut de Soudure, and MISTRAS, is now used on TotalEnergies industrial sites to optimize storage tank inspection. This work, initiated in 2012, made it possible to design a robust and high-performance robot capable of meeting the specific needs of refinery environments.
A robot tailored to industrial site requirements
Designed to accelerate and improve inspections, Altiscan reduces intervention time by a factor of four thanks to its maneuverability, strong adhesion, and ability to move easily along vertical walls.
Enhanced with additional modules, it provides a complete solution for inspecting corroded or critical areas:
- Onboard camera for real-time visual inspection
- Phased-array probes for detailed corrosion mapping
- Reinforced magnetic system for maximum adhesion on all surfaces
Serving performance in the field
Tests carried out on the Donges sites demonstrated Altiscan’s potential for industrial inspections. TotalEnergies and MISTRAS praised its efficiency and expressed their willingness to collaborate on its continuous improvement.

This partnership makes it possible to adapt Altiscan to the specific requirements of each site, thereby strengthening both safety and productivity in inspection operations. Since 2012, every robot iteration has integrated field feedback from TotalEnergies inspection teams.
